Designer Spotlight: Phillip Lim

"I don't have icons. I don't think one person can live up to your dreams. It's more about the spirit and power of a woman." —Phillip Lim

Few names in fashion garner unanimous praise from both critics and customers like Phillip Lim's. Since debuting 3.1 Phillip Lim in 2005 (the 3.1 stands for 31, Lim's age at the time), he's become the go-to guy for girlie but cool dresses and ultrawearable outerwear. "Classic with a sense of madness" is how he describes his work. Yet Lim may as well be talking about himself. Recently inspired by Avatar, the New York-based designer outfitted his muse — a 4-year-old French bulldog named Oliver — in painted-on zebra stripes. Dubbed Ovatar, "He kept getting stopped on the streets!" Lim's latest creation is a bit more discreet: a new line of retro-chic lingerie that Lim, a self-professed introvert, says embraces the staycation. Using soft pima cotton and feminine prints, Lim continues his reign as woman's best friend.

It's always interesting to know a little something about the "human side" of designers. Phillip Lim is one of the "hottest properties" in the vast arena of design as is evident by his luscious creations.
