Hilary Rhoda Wears Spring's Relaxed Suits and Jackets
Models may frequently find themselves enacting all kinds of fantasy scenarios for photo shoots, but it’s not often they portray one of their own daydreams. For Hilary Rhoda, donning the guise of a newscaster for these pages felt downright prescient: “I’d like to get into sports journalism,” says the 22-year-old Maryland native (and Redskins fan), “so getting to ‘interview’ a football player was very cool.” With Rhoda’s track record, she’ll likely attain her goal: Since she began modeling at age 15, she’s scored slam dunks galore—from being handpicked by Nicolas Ghesquière for her debut, on the Balenciaga spring 2006 catwalk, to landing a coveted contract with Estée Lauder in 2007 (“a life-changing moment”) to twice joining the bevy of bikini-clad beauties who appear in Sports Illustrated swimsuit issues. Her athletic, all-American looks may be a throwback both to pre-Camelot Jackie O. and ’80s-era Brooke Shields (“I’ve been compared to her since I was little,” she says), but Rhoda takes another iconic brunette as her role model: “Cindy Crawford’s career has been incredible,” she says. “She’s expanded in ways no one could have anticipated. That’s what I want to do, too.” Game on.

I love the pieces in this feature, as I'm partial to a more relaxed suit and separates. I don't like the look and feel of being "buttoned up."
