Emerging Shoe Designers Featured at Saks

Saks Fifth Avenue today is launching in-store shoe boutiques with new designs from emerging talent.

The designs will augment footwear styles from leaders such as Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo and Gucci in the Manhattan flagship and in the Beverly Hills store.

The luxury retailer has installed shop-in-shops, called Special Delivery to 10022-Shoe, with tightly edited selections of stilettos, sandals and flats by the likes of Diego Dolcini, Gianvito Rossi, Jonathan Kelsey, Rupert Sanderson, Heather Williams and Daniele Michetti.

“Saks has always believed in developing new talent,” said Cody Kondo, senior vice president and general merchandise manager for accessories, who championed designers such as Camilla Skovgaard and Brian Atwood from the beginning of their careers. “Our merchant team shopped the market exhaustively, looking for designers with innovative ideas whose shoes pushed trends forward.”

Kondo said Saks customers are looking for fashion and novelty, combined with wearability. Styles include a stiletto sandal by Michetti with undulating curls of lizard up the vamp; another is Rossi’s sheer black mesh lace-ups that resemble a corset. Saks is the exclusive U.S. retailer for the Daniele Michetti and Heather Williams lines for spring.

Prices range from $495 to $1,575. The Special Delivery concept will continue for fall.

“The idea was not to duplicate but to show…styles that embraced different materials and silhouettes,” Kondo said.
