Knit Wit: Jessica Schröder's Margot

“Currently I’m designing my second spring/summer collection for my own accessory label Margot, inspired by paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites as well.

Background

“I graduated in 2009 and finished with a diploma in fashion design at the University of Applied Sciences, Hamburg.”

At the moment

“Currently I’m living in Hamburg and designing my second spring/summer collection for my own accessory label Margot.

The collection will be more flowery and is inspired by paintings of the Pre-Raphaelites as well as the style of Frida Kahlo.

Besides I’m establishing myself as a freelance knitwear designer for other brands.”

Style key-words

Soft, sensual, poetic, whimsical, organic, lush, intricately, handcrafted.

Where would you like to see your collection sold?

“In no particular store, but anywhere where people would love the style of Margot.”

Other experiences in fashion?

“I worked for several years as design assistant for the German accessory label “the girl and the gorilla” and did an internship at the knitwear department of “Diane von Furstenberg”, New York.”

What do you expect from the publication on vogue.it?

“Showcasing my work on vogue.it is a great opportunity to introduce my accessory label to a wide international audience. Hopefully I will be able to approach interested people and gain more contacts for future collaborations.”

What's next? The greatest dream?

“My greatest dream is to establish Margot as an international accessory brand. Therefore I’m looking right now for an exciting spot to present my next collection.”

How do you define fashion?

“Fashion is just a great medium to express your self. For me as a designer it gives me the possibility to step into other worlds at every single day of the week.”

What celebrity would you like to dress?

Florence Welch of Florence + the Machine.

Style icons?

"Pippi Longstocking, Tim Walker, Alexander McQueen...everyone who has a great fashion story to tell."

How is your relationship with raw materials?

“Researching material for a new collection is one of my favourite parts, because it’s very essential for my work. Exceptional yarns and new colours always inspire me and give me a first hint how the new collection will look like.”

Global Street Style: Auckland, New Zealand

Known as the “City of Sails,” Auckland boasts a harbor beautifully populated with yachts, a far departure from the green rolling hills of rural New Zealand. While its nearest neighbor is Australia, New Zealand has a style all its own—a blend of nautical, urbane and casual-cool. Olivia Coote of Auckland Street Style snaps the best of them from Queen Street to Ponsonby.
