TWO OF HEARTS: Just in time for Valentine’s Day, Jessica Alba and jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer have teamed up on two necklaces to benefit the (RED) charity organization, launching Wednesday on Gilt.com. Net proceeds from the sales of the heart-shaped necklaces, which come in 8k gold ($280 retail) or 18k gold with rubies ($980 retail), will provide nine or 27 months of lifesaving medication to pregnant HIV-positive women in Africa through the Global Fund, a beneficiary of (RED).

“We realized that hearts were a perfect metaphor for this project…it's an easy, elegant design that women can keep close to their hearts,” Alba said.

“We’re both moms so it really hits home,” Meyer said of the medication, which prevents the AIDS virus from being transferred from pregnant women to their unborn children. “Imagine that feeling of transferring something to your child. It’s the worst thing in the world, and there are ways to prevent it.”

The Hollywood moms have been friends for more than 10 years and have experienced similar family trajectories, so the co-design process came about naturally.

“It makes so much sense for us to collaborate on what we love, use the power of our platforms, and amplify what we do to help eradicate one of the worst diseases,” Alba said. “Helping women and children has always been a priority for me.”
