Perfume bottle necklaces have a long history. In the days when everyone wasn't showering regularly keeping scent nearby was important. Ladies often wore small intricately decorated flasks on chains so that they could dab on perfume whenever they liked. This tradition lives on in the beautiful bottles created by designer Chhaya Kapadia for her company Maya Jewels. Kapadia built the company on three key principles: intricate and clever designs, the use of forgotten art forms, and uncompromising craftsmanship. Born and raised in Mumbai, India, she spent her childhood surrounded by bright colors, elaborate art and women adorned in jewelry. Her bracelets, rings, necklaces and other pieces have been featured in Town & Country, W magazine and Elle.I asked her why she decided to add perfume bottles to her collections. She said that it is the romance of scent that appealed to her. "I like romantic aspect of life and different ways in which we humans express our love," she said. "When a man gives perfume to a woman, he declares his love for her. I wanted to depict romance in a romantic way! And thus creation of perfume bottles.
