A Little Something for the Men

It just dawned on me that I haven't posted anything for the men in a week or so....here goes. First, I'd like to direct your attention to the Moschino rose print jacket and trousers; while I love the suit's design, I'm not too sure about the whole rose thing. You know I'm all for the "artsy" avant garde fashions, but that look kind of misses the mark. As I think about it, the one person who comes to mind that could pull it off is Vogue's Hamish Bowles. His style is "very english" for the most part, but I've seen pictures of him in print trousers and driving moccasins and for him, it worked. Much of it has to do with the fact that he is small in stature....I certainly couldn't imagine some guy with a "hulking" physique in that suit or print trousers for that matter. It's a totally different kind of thing with Moschino's "splatter jacket.....I love it! A fabulously funky piece that allows for much styling versatility. Ah.....and Vivienne Westwood, what else would you expect from her but something as unique and eye-catching as her detailed offering. It's refreshing to see that these days, men, just as women, have a veritable "smorgasbord" of fashion delights to choose from; it hasn't always been that way! If I knew of someone who owned that Moschino "splatter" jacket, I would certainly borrow it, belt it, and wear it with skinny jeans or leggings and a funky bootie!

Men: River Island GFW Collection

You don't need a degree in fashion to recognise that preppy varsity cardigans, roll-leg chinos and Coldplay-style military jackets are a little more directional than your typical High Street fare. As part of its six year-long sponsorship of Graduate Fashion Week, River Island is releasing a line designed by former GFW students who impressed enough that they have since become employees. The limited-edition postgrad pieces will be available in 40 River Island stores and online from the end of May. GQ particularly likes the driving shoes - there's nothing like putting your foot down in Lamborghini-yellow treads.

What a wonderful opportunity for the graduates, and as you can see, they are certainly taking command of their abilities and turning out some great pieces......I would love to have that military jacket!

Men: Rebel Prep

He's never summered in Nantucket but appreciates a good pair of plaid shorts. He wears Dr. Martens with a double-breasted navy blazer and isn't afraid to mash up traditional patterns. You can't quite tell if he's from London, the Lower East Side, or Greenwich, Connecticut, which is exactly how he likes it. This spring, designer Junya Watanabe built an entire collection around this guy and called it Snob. We call the look preppy with edge.

I like it, I like it. While considered "preppy," the pieces are more relaxed and not as "buttoned up" as some collections. I personally find the preppy with a certain edge a bit more appealing. It's always interesting to see designers such as Junya Watanabe put their spin on pieces which are not their usual forte.

I love this website...........it appears that when choosing their "wares," much of the focus is centered on the more "European-type" pieces. That approach certainly bodes well for the shopper who seeks a unique mixture of items.
