Barneys Dedicates Window Displays to Iman

Iman has always been our fashion icon, but when she receives the Fashion Icon Award at this year's CFDA's, it'll finally be official. To celebrate the honor, Barneys New York creative director Simon Doonan is dedicating two of the store's Madison Avenue window displays to the supermodel/mogul/ESSENCE.com blogger. According to WWD, one display will include collages and cutout images of her; while the other will showcase a Bruce Weber portrait of Iman with quotes about her from style luminaries like Diana Vreeland and her hubby David Bowie. Check out the displays when they're installed on May 11th!

Wow, how exciting! I can imagine how thrilled she is to be honored in such a fashion. She is indeed a style icon and still looks very much the supermodel. Congratulations Iman!

Iman: Superwoman

The photographer Peter Beard deserves credit for discovering Iman in 1975, when she was a student at the Univeristy of Nairobi. Then again, who could miss her? Yves Saint Laurent once called the Somali-born polyglot “perfection.” She’s 54, and the judgment still stands. Iman gave up modeling in 1989 and now helms a cosmetics company that grossed a reported $25 million in the United States last year. She lives with her husband, David Bowie, in New York’s SoHo neighborhood. “It’s a perfect place for my husband,” she says. “Everyone’s dressed better than he is, and they all think they’re stars — so no one bothers him. Iman Luxury Eyeliner

The holiday season is in full swing but if you're like me you're heading to almost every party on your list straight from work. My solution: wear black, stash a few fab accessories in my bag and ditch the opaque stockings! My greatest trick however came straight from Iman. I caught up with the "chic one" over espresso early one morning at her Manhattan digs and she gave yours truly one of her sparkly eyeliners and said: "Darling... just apply a little to the inner corner of your eyes." Talk about one glamorous stroke--now I'm working all four shades! Just pair one with a smoky eye and you're sure to be the talk of the party.

Proof that "Age is just a Number"

These beautiful ladies have, and continue to withstand the "passage of time". We as women can choose or not choose to yield to the "societal pressures" to be "rail thin" and fear aging to the point that we will try every new cream or procedure that comes around. I can't say what these women do to keep themselves looking well, however, I would guess that much of it has to do with genetics. I admire those women who choose to age gracefully and not succumb to those pressures that relegates many of us into "self-consciousness". Hats off to all the women who love themselves and take care of themselves in a way that works for them and not someone else.

"Celebrity Hotness.....Making Jeans Look Good"

There are some celebrities that can make a simple pair of jeans look hot. It's all about the "add ons" whether it is a great looking purse, top, shoes or jacket, that's what really brings the look together. All of these ladies personify "hotness" in the looks that they have chosen.

I just happened to take a really good look at an email that I received from HSN (The Home Shopping Network). Boy have they changed! I am impressed by the roster of celebrity and other designers that they now have. Of course I just browsed the jewelry categories. I knew that Suzanne Somers and Susan Lucci both have jewelry as well as clothing featured. I also knew about jewelry designer R.J. Graziano and Tina Knowles (Beyonce's mother). Here's a list of the people I didn't know about.

I also discovered that Kenneth J. Lane has some really pretty pieces on QVC. Possibly, some of the more popular designers find that they sell more with lower priced lines. What ever the reason, both sites have beautiful jewelry.
