The espadrille has long been a summer staple, favored by the ultra chic of days gone past. In my mind, I can envision Babe Paley, Slim Keith and Peggy Guggenheim sporting flats while on "holiday." They were also popular among the men of the "chic set." Cary Grant wore a pair in the movie
"To Catch A Thief." What better for traipsing around the Riviera.
Though I do sometimes wear a sneaker in the summer months, (depending on the occasion) The espadrille is a great alternative. I've featured some of my favorites.
