Patchwork is making its way into stores this fall, but the latest versions are no folksy throwbacks. Instead, designers are incorporating graphic shapes and unexpected color and material combinations that would make heads spin in your grandmother’s quilting circle. Reworked classics such as McQ’s jeans and Roksanda Ilincic’s tweed shift dress sport geometric patterns, while that fall perennial, the crew-neck sweater, takes on a Frankensteinian quality in the hands of Junya Watanabe, thanks to contrasting textures and a sprinkling of sequins.
