Gucci's 1921 Collection
It’s called the 1921 Collection and it’s a tribute to the year that the Gucci fashion house was founded: the brand has decided to celebrate its 90th birthday with a limited edition collection. It combines elegance and craftsmanship and pays homage to the fantastic legacy of the Florence-based firm.
“We’ll be celebrating our anniversary in many different ways throughout the year,” said Frida Giannini, the firm’s creative director. “My aim was to make this special collection a tribute to the icons, the workmanship and the exclusive materials that the brand has become famous for since its foundation in 1921 by Guccio Gucci. Each piece in this collection tells a story and represents an important chapter in our rich heritage.”
The accessories have been branded with a new logo, “G. GUCCI Firenze 1921”, which appears on the belt buckles and on metal tags for the travel bags. The 1921 Collection includes special versions of the New Bamboo, New Jackie and Horsebit Chain bags, which have been designed in calfskin and crocodile in shades of dark brown, pink, khaki, cherry and bottle green.
Tributes to Gucci’s ties to the equestrian world haven’t been forgotten: there are riding boots as well as a reinterpretation of the classic loafer, the moccasin with clip, in calfskin or crocodile and a range of soft shades.
There are also celebratory, limited edition sunglasses, which come with a tag on the side in 18 carat gold, and 1921 watches, for both men and women. The collection will go on sale in July in Gucci boutiques and on the company’s website.
