I've long awaited the debut of Isabel Toledo's shoe collection for Payless. Just her name alone, evokes thoughts of fabulously unique offerings, whatever the design. This collection is no exception, and should prove to be a big hit among shoppers.

Wedges For Spring
Joie’s blush suede lace-up wedge bootie; Diane Von Furstenberg’s espadrille with leather ankle tie.
80%20's printed canvas and cork geisha wedge; Bettye Muller's ikat-print espadrille; Farylrobin's leather-wrapped abstract-print wedge.
Claudia Ciuti’s leopard-print wedge sandal; Rock & Republic’s leather-wrapped wedge with screw studs; Modern Vintage’s snakeskin mule with woven trim.
Designers are offering up fun and flirty options for girls on the go this season. Some of the most noteworthy
trends at FN Platform included rosy-hued nudes, printed canvas and fresh takes on the sculpted wedge.

The pairs featured in picture three are like music to the soul!
Resort 2011 Accessories Trend: Utilitarian
(Designer information not included in article)
Clockwise from top right: 3.1 Phillip Lim necklaces with Swarovski pearls; Meredith Wendell bangles; Celine tote; Yves Saint Laurent’s calfskin and raffia wedge sandal, and Roger Vivier clutch.
Once relegated to tool kits and tarps, canvas, the most practical of fabrics, gets a major shot of chic for resort.

A few of the "neutrals & the naturals," very nice. I especially love the Dsquared tote.

"Better In Leather?"
Diane Von Furstenberg
(netaporter.com)
I'm going to offer a resounding yes to my own question! I've always had a sort of love/hate relationship with leather clothing. I will admit to owning leather pants in the eighties and nineties, but I just couldn't do the whole "set thing." You know the the skirt and jacket with the nipped waist and padded shoulders....it just didn't work for my particular look. My personal opinion is, that leather is better in small doses instead of head to toe...handbags and shoes of course, are the exception. Fast forward to NOW, and I'm lovin the leather trend! The idea of a frilly, feminine blouse with leather shorts or a leather skirt softens the look and makes it so much more appealing. The two items that I'm COMPLETELY taken with, is the Diane Von Furstenberg dress and the Joseph pants. Both caught my eye due to their amazing detail! I'll definitely add a couple of leather pieces for the upcoming season.

"Boutique on Wheels"
This is such a fabulous concept! Not the first of it's kind, but still unique in it's own way. What could be better than stepping into a truck or van filled with a bevy of delectable delights!
CLOCKWISE FROM TOP LEFT: Joey Wölffer and Trish Carroll; Straw minaudières from Serpui Marie; Miss Trish flip-flops paired with French minis from Ella Luna; Drawers reveal jewels from around the world.; Display cubes change color depending on Trish and Joey’s mood.
YOU’VE PROBABLY SEEN the leopard-print van cruising around the Hamptons this summer. The brainchild of designers Joey Wölffer and Trish Carroll of Miss Trish of Capri, the extravagant LaSmooch truck is outfitted like a seductive private club that James Bond might have frequented. While there are no hunky mystery men waiting inside, there is an exclusive handpicked selection of clothing and accessories sure to make every lady swoon. With plans to travel around the country to key destinations, from New York’s Fashion Week to Miami’s Art Basel, we’re hopping on for the ride.
How did you conceptualize LaSmooch?
TRISH CARROLL: LaSmooch was an extension of the mobile retailing experiences I created with Miss Trish of Capri in the Hamptons, from the 1967 Malibu Surf Van to the cabana pop-up at the Wölffer farm stand. It’s the ultimate walk-in closet on wheels, combining the excitement of resort shopping and the unique experience of buying something from a treasure trove.
What were your design inspirations?
JOEY WÖLFFER: Our truck is representative of the range of cultures we experienced on our travels. It’s a brilliant mix of luxury and hippie chic from the streets of Paris to Rio’s markets.
How did you bring it to life?
TC: Our interior designer, James Spodnik, has a history of pop-up genius moments and an unbelievable creative eye. He was inspired by James Bond movies, referencing late ’70s and early ’80s private clubs. Who else would put a huge porthole window in the back surrounded by a gold sunburst, zebrawood display units, red lacquered walls and a mirrored gold ceiling?
What’s your preferred mode of transportation?
TC: Riva boat; secondly, a Vespa scooter.
JW: 1999 Chevy Potato Chip truck, of course!
Any favorite new lines?
JW: I love Dassios for the ultimate boho-chic look, Roarke’s Aztec bibs and Lucy Hutchings’ modern silhouettes.
FROM LEFT: Display cubes change color depending on Trish and Joey’s mood; Drawers reveal jewels from around the world.
Name a few must-have fall accessories.
TC: A Michael Kors bright fur, the oversize brass-buckle belt from Céline and a killer Louis Vuitton pointed-toe lady pump.
What’s the secret of your success?
JW: Going against the grain and taking risks. I want to bring individuality and uniqueness to the customer, which keeps them excited and wanting to come back for more.

Designer Spotlight: Dannijo
I was so excited to get some "behind the scenes" information on one of my favorite jewelry lines. I must say, these young ladies are certainly keeping things hot with their big, bold and unique creations!
<
COSTUME JEWELRY HAS BECOME as significant an accessory as shoes and handbags, and sisters Danielle and Jodie Snyder have stepped in to offer a fresh perspective with an exuberant, contemporary collection. Falling somewhere between Danielle’s bohemian, rock ’n’ roll aesthetic and Jodie’s classic style, each piece in the Dannijo collection packs a punch.
Like many little girls, Danielle and Jodie grew up playing dress up; unlike most girls, they turned the hobby into a full-blown obsession, borrowing their father’s medical tools to re-create their mother’s jewelry. After the buzz that surrounded their first capsule collection, designed for a nonprofit, the self-taught jewelers built a more comprehensive collection, which was picked up by Bergdorf Goodman. Since then, they have expanded Dannijo by drawing on their love of travel and other cultures. “We’re both very open as designers and appreciate how different cultures incorporate unique materials, textures and designs,” says Jodie.
The sisters’ worldy approach and youthful spirit create a look for a new generation. Appropriately, Danielle looks to pop culture for inspiration. “I’m always inspired by music-festival culture from bygone eras, like Woodstock, to present, like Coachella,” she muses. They also love vintage jewelry, incorporating various materials and colors in their designs. But the fall collection tells their own story, that of “an urban warrior meets world traveler, the story of two sisters set against a global backdrop.” Intermix, 64 Main St., Southampton; dannijo.com

Jessica Stam for Rachel Roy
Jessica Stam: From Model to Designer She's walked every runway and inspired Marc Jacobs to name a bag after her. Now, the model casts her sights on the design world with a collection for Rachel Roy.
There's no way to prepare for the shock of seeing Jessica Stam in person. Her trademark blue eyes are so electric that had she been alive during the Salem witch trials, she most certainly would've burned at the stake. World-famous designers and photographers alike have fallen under her spell. Yet, despite the 24-year-old's supermodel status, Stam is just a down-home girl from a farm in Kincardine, Ontario, the lone female among six rowdy brothers. "We had pigs, cows, and chickens—I hadn't seen a fashion magazine until I started modeling," she laughs. But after being discovered at 15 in a Tim Hortons coffee shop, she couldn't get enough of them. "I was really curious about what the industry was about," she says. "So I started flipping through fashion magazines to find out." Between studying clothes in print and wearing them on the runway, it was only a matter of time before the model would try her hand at design.
In 2008, she teamed up with Repetto shoes to create a signature flat and consulted Rag & Bone on its spring 2010 collection. Both projects were stepping stones to Stam's latest undertaking: five wardrobe essentials created with Rachel Roy for the designer's more affordable RACHEL Rachel Roy line at Macy's. Debuting this month, the collection captures the essence of a cool downtown girl. A chain-strap navy bucket bag and cozy gingham knit cardigan showcase the "nautical meets distressed military" vibe Stam was aiming for. "I had full creative control," she says. "But Rachel really stressed that whatever I made should be something I'd want to see my friends in." Since she has nearly 100,000 (and counting) followers on Twitter, something tells us Stam's close friends won't be the only ones racing to snag her designs. Could this be the launching pad for her own label? "No comment," she answers coyly. We'll go ahead and get our hopes up.
